An Overview on The Use Of Fragrance Oils

Saturday, March 13th, 2010

The overall definition of fragrance oils is that they are blended compounds or oils that are extracts from a source, usually a plant. There are also some fragrance oils which are derived from animals. There are also some fragrance oils which are synthetically produced and not necessarily from plants or herbs and are often sold as discounted fragrances. These oil blends are commonly used in women’s fragrances, aromatherapy, cosmetics and also flood enhancement.  Fragrance oils have been found to increase the susceptibility of consumers to buy when they are integrated into a product due to their attractive scent. Fragrance oils with women’s fragrances oftentimes sell fast simply because the scent is alluring and sexy.

In making perfumes, fragrance oils can be the catalyst of a scent. The plant derivatives are often categorized as woodsy, floral, oriental and citrusy. Animal sources are whales, civets, bees and deer. The intensity of a fragrance is often dependent on how diluted t is and what is used to dilute it. Fragrances are often described in three levels, which are the base notes, the middle notes and the top notes. Women’s fragrances are often the best examples of fragrances that contain these three levels. Whether it is a designer perfume or discounted fragrances fragrance oils are still used to create a unique scent for each of the numerous women’s fragrances.

Top notes are those scents which are immediately scented upon exposure to women’s fragrances. Since these can sway an individual’s initial impression of the perfume, top notes are usually the most attractive and captivating scents. Middle notes are the scents which come immediately after the tops notes’ scents are about to dissipate. These fragrance oils make up the heart of the perfume itself. These scents usually last the longest and may sometimes act as a cover for the more basic base notes. Base notes are fragrances that appear when the middle notes are just about to dissipate. They are the solid part of any perfume and are used to hold together a perfume. Most base notes scents are rich and heavy and are noticeable way after the perfume has been applied. Fragrance oils used for base notes are usually from the woods variety of fragrances. Even discounted fragrances use fragrance oils.

Fragrance oils are also used to render make up and other cosmetics better smelling and more appealing. This is to mask the strong smell of the compounds and waxes used to make cosmetics. As for food, many are “flavored” using our sense of smell. We are often deluded into thinking that the food is strawberry flavored or vanilla flavored due to the scent added into it. Aromatherapy uses fragrance oils to calm, soothe and even energize an individual. Fragrance oils are very versatile it can be used in women’s fragrances, discounted fragrances and even food.
